Hello! I bought my 79 bay window back in 2005 I think. One of the first things done on my van was that a local VW garage said my twin carbs were shot and fitted a single weber progressive - something I've always regretted really (and no, I didn't keep the old carbs ). It took many years and trips to different garages to get it running not great, but OK. Seems to be conking out in tickover when hot nowadays, think it's down to using premium E5 fuel -maybe burning hotter than the standard fuel used to? I must look for a thread about these carbs! Would love to go back to twin carb set up when the bank balance allows. I don't really go to many of the meets and my close friends don't really share the interest- so most work is a solo effort. I mostly use the van for family camping holidays and weekends away. Anyway, I'm here now and I've already used some of the information found on this forum to help me out! I'll contribute where I can. G-Ram
Hi there G - Ram. Welcome to the forum. I’ve only ever had one van with a single carb but that was stock and a long time ago. I run two 34s , Webbers, They run pretty good, but no choke really so a bit of a minute or so warm up on a cold day and that’s about the only downside to them. The needle and seats can be a bit of an issue with them but the vitron ones seem to be ok now. But rebuilding carbs is easier with the help of the gang on here if you can get some second hand ones. E5 which we now call supreme or super or whatever is pretty much what we used to use anyway and all the time. But conking out on tickover is usually a blocked pilot jet or a choke stuck on. Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,Nice looking van too
Welcome along. We have some really good twin carb set up people on here, some even know what they’re on about!

Welcome from France and if that’s you in the avatar you’re a youngster, but then just about everyone is a youngster to me. Hopefully you have never gone back to that local VW garage, they have caused you years of unnecessary pain. Did they advise you to fit a 009 distributor at the same time as the single Weber progressive?
To be completely fair to the garage, I don't think that there were the number of carb refurb kits back then that you can find on a number of websites now. I'm still using the standard vacuum advance distributer but sometimes wonder if something different would help.
The standard SVDA distributor is absolutely fine, if it is working okay, don’t be persuaded to fit a 009.
Hello and welcome from Tufty. . Looking quite professional there, nice set up. And as has been said you'll find practically all you need to know on here.
